Backyard Swamp

Posted in Uncategorized by sillykidpoems on December 10, 2009

What once was my backyard,
Has now become a swamp,
These days I make a splash,
Where in the past I’ve romped.

A six foot chain link fence,
Is a reef for our lagoon,
But I’m going to need an ark
If this rain does not stop soon.

Racing Butterflies

Posted in Uncategorized by sillykidpoems on September 20, 2009

I raced a butterfly on my bike,
Quite confident I’d be king.
Sure big old me with all my might
Would best those little paper wings.

Turns out that I was not quite right,
When that little bitty thing,
Swiftly slipped out of my sight,
And left my pride a sting.

Nana’s here

Posted in Uncategorized by sillykidpoems on September 10, 2009

Nana’s here!
Oh joy! Oh cheer!
Finally respite from the fear
Of “Eat your veggies,”
And time-out,
Consequences if I shout,
“Clean your room up,”
“Lose that pout.”
All things I could do without.
From punishment my folks refrain,
‘Till Nana heads back home again.

The first day of school

Posted in Uncategorized by sillykidpoems on August 30, 2009

The first day of school,
Oh I feel like a fool,
Summer seems to have slipped right away.

I had plans oh so grand
Now they’ve slipped through my hand
And they sure won’t be realized today!

Now it’s no talking class,
Off-limits hall with no pass,
And a teacher who drones on and on.

Squandered my chance to play,
Guess it’s true what they say,
You don’t miss a good thing ’till it’s gone!

The rodeo

Posted in Uncategorized by sillykidpoems on August 14, 2009

The cowboys at the rodeo
Sit down upon a bull
Till the rope that holds the chute gate closed
Some clown decides to pull.

The bull removes the cowboy
From his back ‘pon his release,
While I’m enjoying cotton candy from
The safety of my seat.

Seven silly snippets sequel (spousally suggested)

Posted in Uncategorized by sillykidpoems on July 17, 2009
Two sisters in one single bed:

I sleep in your bed with you when I feel alone,
And sometimes when I’m scared by a storm,
Or too many dogs pile on the bed that I own,
And sometimes in winter to keep warm.

One day we’ll grow up and through this world we’ll roam,
And find husbands to lie with instead,
But such comfort and peace I’ll bet we’ll never own,
As two sisters in one single bed.

    Thunderstorms

Boom boom, crash crash,
Thunderstorm, lightning flash,
Rain pounds, wind howls,
How on earth will I sleep now?

    Five thirty

Five thirty,
Little brother,
Wakes up from his sleep,
Which would be fine,
No concern of mine,
If he wouldn’t make a peep.
But he does …
Oh he does …
And I’m angry …
Just because …
Five thirty,
Every morning,
Seems I must wake up myself,
But come nap time,
Revenge is mine,
Noise will keep up someone else!

    Seven

Well I am the queen,
Of all the times tables,
Straight up through six times nine.
And seven times one
Through three I am able,
To handle, no problem, it’s fine.
Somewhere after that,
The whole thing just goes flat,
It’s a problem I can’t seem to buck.
And it seems rather strange,
For I’ve heard it explained,
That seven will bring you good luck.

    untitled

I like alliteration,
Lovely letters linked together,
And I crave that syncopation,
Words in meter sound much better.

But I’ve got a little problem,
With the way I spend my time,
‘Stead of thinking ‘portant thoughts,
I’m always thinking up a rhyme.

    My favorite breakfast

Fried in butter makes ‘em better,
Doused in syrup makes ‘em wetter,
Sister hopes Dad won’t forget her,
Pancakes!

Top with bubbles, edges dry,
Take the flipper, send it high,
Hear the sizzle on the other side,
Pancakes!

Golden circles, edges brown,
Milk or tea helps wash ‘em down,
I can eat them by the pound,
Pancakes!

    Nutrition class

I never learned much in nutrition class,
Though I listened right up to the bell.
I could never recall the four food groups,
Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and something else.

The food pyramid always seems so silly to me,
Just a strange upside down ice cream cone.
As I wait here in line at the custard stand,
I see in my troubles I wasn’t alone!

Buttering up for a cookie

Posted in Uncategorized by sillykidpoems on June 27, 2009

Mama, Mama,she’s the best!
So much better than the rest,
Little brother is such a pest,
Sister never lets me rest,
Daddy’s looney-toons I guess,
But my allegiance I’ve confessed.

Oob-A-Keep

Posted in Uncategorized by sillykidpoems on June 21, 2009

Say Oob-A-Keep,
And cover your peeps,
Uncover them, and say it in reverse.

There’s another game,
Played much the same,
But I think its name is much worse!

Seven silly snippets

Posted in Uncategorized by sillykidpoems on June 19, 2009

Rhett
Attention span: short
My patience: thin
I’m hard to describe, where should I begin?
Room: a mess
My age: just turned two
My crib is a growing stuffed animal zoo.
Favorite drink: milk
Favorite toy: a train
I get what I want or I’ll drive you insane.
Won’t sit down for: supper
Won’t sit still for: books
Get away with murder due to my good looks.
In the yard: on the swings
In the car: back seat
Where I’m constantly pulling my shoes from my feet.
The world’s bestest toddler:
It surely must be,
Irresistible, kissable, lovable me!

Playing with my little brother
I give my little brother things,
And then I take them back,
It’s hard to tell the joy it brings,
Just watching him react.

Bath time
Bath time’s a gas,
It makes a big splash,
Pouring water from cups on the top of my head.
I love all the toys,
And the echo-ey noise,
It’s only the soap and the washcloth I dread.

Temper Tantrum
I fall on the floor and throw fits,
Just to bother my mommy to bits,
I’ve quite a good act,
Lying there on my back,
But the time-out that follows it sure is the pits!

Diaper change
I fight diaper change,
You might think it strange,
I make it a challenge for mom, I confess.
She tries to hold firm,
But I fidget and squirm,
Don’t like to be dirty, nor cleaned up I guess.

The perils of climbing
My hand starts to slip
I’m losing my grip
And I’d almost achieved record height
And that’s tile on the floor
Oh, I’m going to be sore!
I can’t believe mom let me out of her sight!

Bedtime
Bedtime’s a bummer,
It’s light in the summer,
And it really just doesn’t seem right.
One would be a fool,
To think it not cruel,
To send me to bed when the sun’s shining bright.

Sharing

Posted in Uncategorized by sillykidpoems on June 10, 2009

I bought a bag of ‘tater chips,
With solemn plan to share,
Its contents with my sister,
In a manner that was fair.
I placed it on the table, and,
In kindly voice declared,
“I’ll take the bottom half with chips,
Your half’s the top with air!”
